...with a simple idea to address a complex and seemingly overwhelming issue: child hunger.
While on my hour lunch break one day in downtown Portland, that simple idea came to me. I noticed that there is an army of 9-to-5ers like myself, with a similar 12-1 break each day. So what if we could band together and do something productive with that hour?
At that same time I read an article about an inspiring 14 year old's experience using a Food Bank with her family for the first time. I knew that I wanted to do something to help children in my own community.
So I decided to skip lunch each Wednesday and donate my lunch money to the Oregon Food Bank. I made a sign, bought a table cloth and spent my first hOURLUNCH sitting in Director Park in Portland, asking others to donate their lunch money too.
The support was immediate and overwhelming... and hOURLUNCH was born!
